Updating for Kinect/Avatar support

I just had two 360 rgh by oggy (great service from him by the way) but neither would work with kinect plugged in it would always prompt for update.

Well I followed the guide in these forums in one of the sticky's but issue I am having is it came up on screen about updating the bar moves to the end but the screen just went blank nothing, the console is still powered up. (wsn't sure if should dare turn it off)

any ideas?
