Reprogram internal memory on Xbox 360 Slim stuck in read-only mode?

I have a Corona model Xbox 360 Slim. This is the type that doesn't have the detachable 4GB internal memory mod.

During the last Xbox update I was unable to get the update to work. After some testing I realized I was unable to get anything to write or delete on the 4GB internal memory. This mean the memory is locked in a read-only state. I contact Xbox already and they were no help (no surprise there). After further investigation, I found that this was occurring on quite a few Slim systems. I contacted Xbox again and made them aware that I was filing a BBB complaint for forcing users to pay for repair services on a system that locks the memory state and not allowing users to reformat the memory. It's standard practice to use a low-level format tool to fix drives become locked in this state.

That all being said, I proceeded to open the Xbox to see if I can locate the offending component and remove it. I found out the internal memory is attached to the NAND. So with my limited experience, I didn't know the direction to handle this. I read on a site where someone was able to reprogram the internal memory/NAND such that it removed the 4GB recognition. The purpose was so that the Xbox would run from a separate M$ hdd as the primary and ignore the internal memory (which is locked). However the poster wanted the Xbox sent to him so he could do that reprogram.

I'd like to know if anyone can point me to a site/thread so that I can do this myself or if there's any other solutions you can think of. My issue sounds similar to this thread: http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139804

I have an Xbox Phat but the DVD laser was broken, so I used the HDD from that box in my Slim as the secondary drive. I could update the Live version on that drive and put it back in the slim but long term that would get annoying. I purchased an **** to install in the Phat to use that as a modded box, but since my Slim cannot update those plans are on hold. I'm not really looking mod my Slim. I just want to restore it to its original behavior (being able to save/delete data) or bypassing it as a primary so that I can use a secondary drive as the primary.
