South Park: The Stick of Truth - a role-player for the gross-out generation

Changing schools is already traumatic for kids, but imagining what it would be like to move into South Park during The Stick of Truth is truly disconcerting. In Obsidian's upcoming RPG, the town is enmeshed in a huge live-action roleplaying game, with different cliques and factions fighting over the eponymous Stick of Truth. Cartman rules over the human kingdom, Kyle and Stan lead the elves, and everyone from the kindergartners to the goths have chosen a banner and gone off to (pretend) war. And, as luck would have it, the New Kid is the only one that has the power to unite all of the kingdoms thanks to his powerful magic, for he is the Dragonborn.
Except nothing is quite as it seems. Cartman's kingdom is run out of his backyard, the "elves" are kids with fake ears, and being a Dragonborn just means the New Kid is really, really gassy. Nearly all of the "magic" involves practical objects: casting a lightning spell means tossing water on your enemies and zapping them with a car battery, and mana potions are just burritos and other flatulence-inducing foods.
There are some supernatural forces, though - the Underpants Gnome's magic allows the New Kid to change size, and Alien Probe tech lets him teleport. There's also the matter of Clyde Donovan, Cartman's former ally who has since decided to try his hand at necromancy, resurrecting dead animals with weird green goop (that he found in a barrel) to create his own army.
In other words, it's chaos. Fans will be delighted by Obsidian's nailing of the show's humour (which makes sense, considering Matt Stone and Trey Parker wrote the game, too), and we're eager to see what other elements of pop culture Stick of Truth lampoons. Nothing is sacred when 'South Park' is in the title - even the stat screen has been retooled to look like Facebook, complete with the New Kid's list of friends and allies.

Absurd? Absolutely, and the cherry on the cake is that Stone and Parker have once again voiced each and every one of the characters. We expect that we'll giggle all the way through when the game releases later this year.
